Prospective tractor buyers in northern California beware of Gold Country Kubota in Newcastle and Grass Valley. They were so dishonest and misleading that in spite of several weeks invested into the purchase of my tractor, I pulled my business and went to Reno where I'm getting honest service. I'd rather wait a few extra weeks than deal with an unethical dealer.

I'll tell you what they did for me. They treated me right. They delivered as promised. They asked a fair price and were totally honest. And they went out of their way to make sure my tractor was properly equiped. ....

They made all kinds of promises when I told them after a 2.5 hours drive to get there that time was of the absolute essence for me. 5 business days went by before they even told me there would be an 8 week wait for a Curtis cab. One week gone. So I got online and found Laurin, gave them the contact info, basically spoon fed them. When they hadn't contacted Laurin several days later, I emailed Laurin myself. Found out that Laurin had 2 cabs left in stock and that once those were gone, it was an 8 week wait for another of their cabs also, as it was with Curtis. Laurin had faxed this info to Gold Country days earlier, and they just ignored the oppportunity and never even gave me the choice as to whether to try and pursue one of the remaining cabs. They just gave up and figured there'd be an 8 week wait. That decision should have been up to ME, not made for me by them because they were too damn lazy to act quickly. So I pursued a direct negotiation with Laurin, got the cab all lined up, etc. Another 3 days go by, and the Laurin rep emails me that he's still waiting for the credit application from GC before anything can be finalized. Another week down the drain. But here's the ultimate customer service clincher: when I complained to one of the sons about their customer service (or lack thereof), his response was, "We'd rather not do business with someone if there are hard feelings. We'll send your deposit back." Huh?? I'm sorry but this attitude and empty promises are, to me, unethical. I work for a hospital and clinic, and handle all patient complaints. Where would my hospital/clinic be if we told every patient who complained to take a hike? I couldn't believe it, so I said fine, send my $5,000 back. Went to Reno, getting great service. Also, beware of the "female" salesperson in that office as she knows very little about tractors. I had done a great deal of research before I went in and knew many questions to ask. She just kept having to ask her sons the answers anyway. I went to GC because I had read good things about them on this and one other tractor forum. Ended up costing me almost 3 weeks in wasted time and alot of aggravation. I'd probably have my tractor already if I'd have just gone to Reno in the first place. I would like to spare other customers the same aggravation and dissappointment that I experienced. ....

I bought my L3010 from that dealer and from the salesperson you are referring to. I had a great experience. They gave me the best deal anywhere. They were pleasant to deal with and gave me good service. I went to many dealers before I decided to buy from them.

Their business is run like a family business. They don't run around trying to get you out the door as fast as possible. It seems they have all the business they need and don't try to hard sell people. They want folks to get the right machine for their needs. I thought it was kinda nice doing business with people who didn't try to rush me or rush the servicing of my tractor. They wanted everything to be done right. ....

Am interested in the Laurin cab. How does it compare to factory cabs (ie. Grand L series) on tractors where they are available. What is the cost with air conditioning? ....

The laurin cab is one of the highest quailty aftermarket cabs available. When it costs as much as the factory cabs comparably equipped I know which way I'd go. Needless to say we do sell some but not for that application. The factory cab is a better value as both prices will be about the same if not just a little more because of the dealer time for mounting the cab. You still will be lacking a few options I believe that are thrown in with the Kubota tractor for cab options. ....

"We'd rather not do business with someone if there are hard feelings.
We'll send your deposit back."

That sounds like an honest answer to me, from an honest dealer, and they gave the customer a way out of the deal.

I have a "friend" that has a real problem with dealers. After 30 years, there isn't a dealer of cars, trucks, tractors, farm machinery, or you-name-it that gets very excited about him showing up at their door. He has trouble wherever he goes. He thinks they all owe him a living or something like that. If they could charge him by the minute for all the their time he takes asking them questions and trying to make the "best" deal and trade in some of his junk, they would maybe make a profit from him. But they don't, they just cringe when they see him coming.
I think dealers and those who work at the dealers are human just like we customers are. If there is a difference of opinion, the customer can go somewhere else. The dealer has to "take" what the customer that shows up at his door wants to dish out, but they don't have to do everything the customer tells them they must do, without getting paid for it. And sometimes that probably isn't enough. ....
